Do you enjoy learning about the world around you? What if you could do so by watching YouTube videos? Meet the Alabama native who just might be your key to everyday learning. His name is Destin Wilson Sandlin.
This 39-year-old aerospace/mechanical engineer and science guru is a Christian, a husband and a father who has taken his passion (and multiple degrees) and slowly gained massive popularity on his YouTube channel called SmarterEveryDay.
So, what does he actually do? Well, each of his videos ususally begins with a question and then continues as Sandlin explores and discovers the world around him. He might teach viewers about the physics of how a cat always lands on its feet or how to escape from a submerged helicopter. He might even interview former president Barack Obama or learn about how a tattoo artist works.
Despite the vast range of topics he addresses, Sandlin’s focus in every video is to encourage viewers to observe, to learn and to ask questions.
Positive Content
Sandlin says that he likes to “explore things and figure them out for myself.” He also encourages viewers to do the same. In addition, viewers learn about physics, inertia, robotics, space satellite control, biomedical engineering, velocity and nature.
For example, in one of his featured videos, Sandlin takes viewers to a Marine Corps installations where he and other Marines learn about Underwater Egress Training; he shows how to survive if your helicopter goes underwater and the science behind breathing and pressure.
Content Concerns
In the background of a tattoo parlor, a man says he got tattooed once because he was “wasted.” We also see a little blood in the tattooing process.
Channel Summary
Destin Sandlin is a Christian, husband and father who takes his degrees in aerospace and mechanical engineering and makes videos that focus on observing and understanding the world. And while some videos will be way too advanced for little kids, many offer interesting, solid content for older explorers (with only occasional, minor content issues to potentially navigate).
